Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was discovered by Walt Disney in an amateur show called Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Funicello did not get an audition when she joined in the Mickey Mouse Club cast in its first season, much at her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' disappointment. Disney's instincts were spot on Funicello became the most popular Mickey Mouse Club performer. The show's own storyline Adventures in Dairyland also featured the actress. Funicello had to start recording records in order to realize her superstar capacity. Annette was not very excited about the idea of her voice, and so Disney brought in Tutti camerata as her manager to assist her in becoming a singer. Funicello began to feel comfortable when recordings, and was delighted to work with Camerata. He was one of a few 40-year-old arrangers at the time who knew the basic principles of rock's early days. Annette Sings Anka was the third album, and probably one of the first albums to feature the rock music of singers as a part of the music repertoire. Funicello co-starred with Frankie Avalon in Beach Party. It was the very first in a sequence of beach parties films that quickly became extremely well-known. The scripts for all of these films were thoroughly reviewed and endorsed by Walt Disney so as to safeguard Annette's image.
